Quaker Monastery is a community of Christians who embrace the Gospel message of peace and unity among all followers of Jesus Christ and live as devoted Servants of the Prince of Peace.

The small contemplative community exists as a witness to God's presence in the world through their mission of prayer, Christian education, spiritual retreats and ecumenical outreach. They steadfastly answer the call to peace as directed by the Lord Jesus Christ. By combining the ideals of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), with the living Benedictine monastic tradition of corporate life, the Friends pray for peace on earth and the unity of Christianity as part of their daily worship and prayer schedule. The Friends also minister to God’s people, for the building up of the body of Christ, through hospitality and community service.

Quaker Monastery is a place of worship, simplicity of life and stewardship; sacred space dedicated to God. Spiritual retreats, peace workshops and days of quiet reflection are shared with pilgrims of all faiths in a plain, low technological environment in harmonious natural surroundings. Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Romans 14:19

Foundation
The leading to establish Quaker Monastery in the Christian contemplative tradition spanned several years until being founded under a leading of the Holy Spirit. It is situated in northern Michigan near Lake Huron and Huron National Forest in an area renown for its quiet rustic beauty. Bethlehem Cloister is the spiritual name of the community.

The community is unique for being the first Quaker Monastery in the U.S. Their schedule includes time for daily intercessory prayer. They promote peace and foster interfaith understanding and ecumenical relationships. On the world wide web, the Friends employ modern technology to deliver videos on their web site as well as other mediums to advance the kingdom of God and share the good news of the Gospel.

Through a three-fold perspective, all is done in the Quaker tradition of seeing "that of God in every man" (Fox), the Benedictine tradition of welcoming Christ in the person of every guest, and the Franciscan tradition of nourishing the body, soul and spirit through a connection with the natural world.

The Friends at Bethlehem Cloister Quaker Monastery earn their living from small scale farming. They are especially known for their work with dogs - raising selectively bred standard rough Collie dogs - and their holistic dog nutrition seminars, therapy dogs and training programs; all of which have spanned almost 30 years.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
- Matthew 5:9
