Quaker Collies

The Friends are known for their selectively bred rough Collie dogs, and their dog training and holistic nutrition programs. Dogs have been essential to the ongoing relationship with the land and natural stewardship projects which have been the hallmark of Quaker Farm for almost 30 years.

The remarkable bond between the Friends and their dogs is demonstrated by the unique working relationship they share. Training dogs to achieve their highest potential by screening, assessing and developing individual aptitudes and personalities, as puppies, with respect to their ability to work and contribute to the well-being of the human condition, has led the Friends to provide their dogs in therapy work, as service dogs, for farm herding, crisis relief, reading dogs for children, mobility support, companion dogs for special needs such as autism and more. Collies are remarkable dogs in so many ways, and if nothing more, they make wonderful family pets for very special families - and that's a lot!

On a spiritual level, the Collies at Quaker Monastery help to bridge the gap between the mysteries of nature and human comprehension. They direct our attention to an understanding of existance beyond ourselves and as they connect us more intimately with the natural world, we find significance in being an interwoven part of all of God's creation.

Our work with Collie dogs at Quaker Farm was featured on Animal Planet. Visit Quaker Farm for more information.
